Does This Mean I'm Not A Reader Anymore?

Just by the URL of this blog, you can tell that I really like books, or used to anyway. Yes, I just said I used to really like books. As in used to, which is in past tense. This is the reason I'm writing this post. You may have noticed in the past few months, but I'm not reading as much as I used to. This is not because I have read too many books, or anything like that, but rather that I'm doing other things.

Recently, I have discovered that while I still do really like reading, it's not my life anymore. I used to read for hours upon hours a night, and that was what I needed at the time. However, right now I'm not  gravitating towards books as much as I used to. This is a good thing, as I am becoming more well-rounded with my activities, and I'm developing better relationships with my friends and family. I have gotten into many new activities, such as predictable things for me, like knitting and photography, and some other not so predictable things, like lacrosse.

Concluding, this doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading for pleasure and stop book blogging. Contrary to that, one of my favorite things to blog about is books. I will still be posting a lot of book related things, but I am also going to start trying some new posts about some of my new hobbies.

I'm Not a Grandma, I Swear.
---------------------------------------------

I like knitting. I love it so much because not only do I get to release my inner creative side, but knitting is also very relaxing. When I have a big test coming up, or I am just kind of stressed about something, I knit a few rows, and I instantly feel a ton better.

Veronica Is Playing a Sport?
------------------------------------------------

I know, it is quite shocking. I was playing lacrosse in gym back in December, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I later decided that I wanted to play lacrosse and here I am. Lacrosse is the most fun sport I have ever played and you should give it a go if you want to.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
----------------------------------------------------

I have gotten SUPER into photography recently. I have been on yearbook since last year, but I have never enjoyed photography that much until about a month ago. I have been taking a lot more pictures for this blog and a lot more other ones too, like the one above. Everything is starting to bloom where I live and it's all so pretty. BUT BLOOMING STUFF ALSO MEANS ALLERGIES WHICH MEANS BASICALLY MY DEATH.

I Like Singing?
---------------------------------

So I tried out for my school's play last month. (We're doing Peter Pan.) I got a small speaking role for the pirate and indian cast and I'm having a lot of fun both with the practices at school and practicing at home with the CD I got.  Also, Xan and Christine both posted something about this musical called Hamilton.  And obviously since I love both Xan and Christine, I had to check it out after both of them mentioned it. (And Christine's lip synchs. The lip synchs were most of the reason I checked out Hamilton. If you haven't gotten the hint yet, go check out Christine's lip synchs.) So basically I have been OBSESSED and I am still really bad at rapping.

I'm Practically a Pop Star.
------------------------------------

lol jk. So basically I have been learning how to play Radioactive on guitar and I've been having a lot of fun. I practice a lot and I've learned a bunch of different ways to play the song.

Jesus Is Cool.
------------------------------

Recently, I have become more involved in my faith. I don't usually talk about my faith on here, but I want to change that in the future. I am a Roman Catholic. Recently, I have started prayer journaling and it has really brought me closer to God. I also always make sure I am reading something spiritual. My current read is Rediscovering Jesus By Matthew Kelly. Some of my older reads are: Unplanned By Abby Johnson and Decision Point By Matthew Kelly. If you are trying to get to know your faith better, I would definitely recommend going to eucharistic adoration regularly and finding a spiritual book that speaks to you.

So, What Does This Mean?
--------------------------------------------

This means I'm broadening my horizons. Trying new things. This may mean "I'm no longer a reader" in some people's books, and that's fine by me. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I, however, think this doesn't make me any less of a reader. Yes, it means that I'm not an "avid" reader anymore, but I still read. I will still read and I will still post a lot of bookish related content. But me, I will not remain all bookish. Reading has always been apart of my life, and it always will be. Reading helped me find who I am and what I am meant to be, and I will always owe reading a debt because of that.

How about you? Have you been finding yourself gravitating less towards reading and books? Have you broadened your horizons recently? Have you tried anything new recently? Tell me anything in the comments below.

  1. I think if someone reads books, they are a reader! I don't think there should be like a "certain amount of books and level to reach" before you get to call yourself a reader, right?!? that seems wrong somehow. XD So yay that you have other interests! I think it's fine to be purely hooked on books and not have any other hobbies...same as I think it's fine to have a ton of other hobbies. So long as we're doing what makes us happy right?!?
Congrats on the part in the play and on doing all these fun things :D

    1. Thank you so much! I was so nervous to post this, as I am apart of the book community, and I'm not reading as much as I used to, so I kind of thought I would be shunned! And yes, we should all do what makes us happy because life is too short to do stuff you hate.
