Blurb:
What if your favorite characters came to life? Billy’s spending the summer in a lakeside cabin that belongs to the mysterious Dr. Libris. But something strange is going on. Besides the security cameras everywhere, there’s Dr. Libris’s private bookcase. Whenever Billy opens the books inside, he can hear sounds coming from the island in the middle of the lake. The clash of swords. The twang of arrows. Sometimes he can even feel the ground shaking. It’s almost as if the stories he’s reading are coming to life! But that’s impossible . . . isn’t it?

What I Liked:
☂This book was cute and I liked the story it told.
☂ I was intereged by the concept of this book.
☂ I liked the parts where this book kept me guessing.
☂ I also liked the characters.

The Characters:

Billy Was: Redeemed for me because he started to read a lot, but I did not like the lack of character development.

Walter Was: adorable, good attitude, unique ideas, liked his honesty, and I also liked how supportive he was.

What I Didn't Like:
☂ I didn't like the lack of character development.
☂ I also didn't like the lulling, slow parts.
☂ I didn't like how there was a lot of just okay stuff.

In Conclusion:

I would recommend this to:

☂ Younger readers
☂ People who like reading about book related things

  1. I read Grabenstein's book about the library (I forgot the title woops) and I had the exact same problem with that one: lack of character development, something I wouldn't have minded if I had been younger. It's such a shame because this one too has such a fun premise that I know I would've loved as a kid! Great review! :)

    1. It was so hard to write this review because I read it in the summer. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
